Frequently asked questions

When are tryouts?

Stay up-to-date on tryout dates, times, & locations by visiting valorsoccer.com/tryout-dates.

What should players expect at tryouts?

We aim to make each player's tryout experience as stress-free as possible. Coaches and evaluators will be focused on observing players' abilities and understanding of soccer in game-like situations.

What if my child cannot attend tryouts or is injured?

If your child will be absent from tryouts, you must still register them. The $10 non-refundable tryout fee will still apply. Coaches will talk with the player's parents and past coaches to learn more about their playing history and what levels and teams they have previously played with to determine their best fit at Valor in lieu of participation in tryouts.

Is financial aid available?

Yes. The financial aid application will be available post-tryouts for players who accept a Premier or Select offer. Visit valorsoccer.com/financial-aid for more information.

Is there a sibling discount?

Yes. The sibling discount is $75 off each additional Premier or Select registration.

How will coaches make their decisions regarding program and team placements?

Teams are formed based on ability. Player placement and team formation will be made after comprehensive evaluation by coaches and coaching directors. Valor Soccer has partnered with player evaluation software TeamGenius to streamline the tryout process for players and evaluators.

How do I register for tryouts?

Online registration through Valor Soccer's registration platform, Sports Connect, is required for participation in tryouts. First things first - set up your new account! Setting up your account ahead of time will make registration extra easy! Sports Connect accounts are family accounts. This means everyone's profile lives under one account, including players, parents/guardians, and any additional account holders you invite to join your account.
Step 1: Navigate to Valor Soccer's Sports Connect homepage. Step 2: Select "Login" if you already have a Sports Connect account or "Register" to create your new account. Step 3: Follow this step-by-step guide to set up your account and everyone's profiles. Once everyone's profiles are set up, you'll be able to see what programs are available for players under the "My Account." Please note that programs will not be shown as "available" until registration is open. Online tryout registration will close at 4:00PM the day before tryouts begin. The $10 tryout fee is non-refundable.

Are returning Valor players guaranteed a roster spot?

No. The tryout process will be fair and equitable to all players, and coaches will offer opportunities to players based on their ability.

Will there be player movement between teams after tryouts and placement?

Yes. Players are often given opportunities to play with higher level Valor teams throughout the playing cycle.

How can I help prepare my child for tryouts?

  • Make sure players are rested, hydrated, and have eaten properly before tryouts.
  • Attend all tryout dates for your age group.
  • Be on time for tryouts. You will need to check in before tryouts begin.
  • Dress for the weather. Players should NOT wear any club gear (including Valor) to tryouts.
  • Wear shin guards and soccer cleats.
  • Bring a soccer ball and water.
  • Follow Return To Play Guidelines.

How will we be notified about tryout results?

You will be contacted by phone or email within 24 to 48 hours of tryouts by a coach with an offer for a team. Players who do not make a team at Valor Soccer will be notified via email.

Are tryouts required?

Yes. Tryouts are required for Valor Soccer's Premier and Select programs.

Can players play up to an older age group?

Yes, however, Sports Connect will require you to register your player for their correct Division (age group-birth year). Proceed with registration for your player's correct Division. After you register, please email info@valorsoccer.com to inquire further about transferring your player to an older division.

Are walk-up tryout participants allowed?

Yes. A $15 tryout fee will apply for walk-up participants. Cash or card accepted. If offered a position on a team, the $10 online tryouts fee registration will also apply when registering for the program ($25 total). Tryout fees are non-refundable.

*Why are U8-U9 tryouts taking place mid-playing cycle?

The Regional Club League (RCL) committee has decided to launch a pilot program to bridge development between the current Jr. RCL full RCL program offerings. The program has been designed to offer young soccer players early exposure to competitive soccer in a challenging and fun environment. U8-2014 players will try out with the intent to form new Valor Premier teams. U9-2013 players will try out with the intent to supplement current Valor Premier teams. Players who are not offered a postion on a Valor team will be encouraged to join Valor's Jr. Academy, FirstKick, or Recreational programs.
