Trump’s response to the Chinese-US trade war and how SZ International calls out the inaccuracies of Trump’s portrayal of his solutions on the US-China tariff situation.
Kylie Maria Tan Kai Lee | SZ International
Today was a spectacular day with the first press discussion. With many countries press agencies being at the conferences. Many press agencies came up to interview Donald Trump on how the Trade War has affected the US President. There were also talks about what he plans to do when China has decided on an outcome against his tariffs. What has been said during the meeting has been enriching and showed us what Mr Trump plans to do during the meeting. Mr Trump had said some rather vague but rather insightful things during the meeting and how he plans to mitigate the negative impacts of his falling out with China.
For some context: China has spoken out about how the US tariffs economically do not benefit China in the long run after President Donald Trump's fentanyl tax. Because of the tax, more China brands are more expensive than they actually are. This made the products more undesirable to the US citizens and China will then have less revenue with their market. China knowing this
decided to break all trade agreements with America causing much unrest with the UN and the general global reception. Due to this, many people wanted to wonder what Donald Trump’s plan would be to help mitigate these negative effects.
Firstly, Trump has been asked the question on whether he thinks this would negatively affect his other trades with other countries. He thinks that trade will be extremely stable. He had denied that the trades will not be badly affected when China breaks all ties with the USA. He talks about how he and Japan have formed an agreement for economical investment with Japan. He
explained in rather vague details that Japan doesn’t seem to have any problem investing with the USA. He also talks about wanting to cut off trade with ‘the crooked Obama administration’ and the Biden administration.
Secondly, Trump talks about how tariffs would have helped anti-America elements to be destroyed in America, and how this is a good thing. He has stated that this would be able to protect the USA trade revenue from being contracted by China elements in the trade market. Not only that he also talks about how he thinks having more political International trades can help protect their USA market which is a very racist assumption to say during the interview. Due to
this, we think he is being dodgy to avoid the fact he made a serious economic mistake.
Below this shows a graph that shows Trump’s tariffs directly target China, followed by India then South Korea.

This graph in itself shows how targeted Asian countries are from trade, and one may want to question Donald Trump’s actual motives just from this investigation on which countries Donald Trump is currently implementing its largest tariffs.
Trump has said that the tariffs will not affect the US citizens. However the graph below proves how increasing trades does not help anyone in general and that tariffs are at a high as of right now.

Because of this, we believe what he says can be voiced null and will affect the US citizens. Not only that, Trump has said that this will not affect the long run and has talked about in vague detail that the US government has come up with a solution. He also did not elaborate on the details of concrete solutions to help America mitigate these financial losses.
In conclusion, while SZ International is very neutral to what has been happening we would like to note that the vagueness and inaccuracies of what President Donald Trump has said can be proven with financial statistics and we would like to hear more elaboration from him on what he plans to do. This is so that we could be able to have a stable understanding on what he plans to do when China breaks the deal. This is so that American citizens will then not be under unstable
economic situations later on.
